Our next spot is BODYROK if you are new to this series my name is Caroline Rose and I am conducting an investigative study on the NYC boutique fitness ecosystem. As a reminder I will be ranking pricing, amenities and the actual workout. And as another reminder - all of this is being tracked in the spreadsheet linked here.
Ok let's get into it. Bodyrok is a 45 minute megaformer workout. The company was founded by Jakob and Tina Irion in 2012. As they state on their website - this is not “Joseph’s pilates” it is a combination of revolutionary equipment, music, lights beautiful spaces and people defining their body. They have locations all over the US since it is a franchise structure. They really pitch it as an investment opportunity.
So, lets get into pricing of the studios here in New York, their intro offer is 1 class for $20 or you can do 5 for $99. After that 1 Class $36 5 Classes $175 10 Classes $340 20 Classes $640.
For membership options they offer 4 Classes p/m $120 8 Classes p/m $210 12 Classes p/m $295 Unlimited p/m $359.
Their unlimited p/m is definitely high compared to the average unlimited price of $237.90 in New York, however their class packs are definitely pretty standard with their single class being less than the average of $41.56
For the amenities - I am sure since this is a franchise type deal, amenities likely vary. But, my biggest gripe here is there was no showers, and really no post class products for example deodorant, dry shampoo, they did have a cool lounge areas and bathrooms of course but definitely less than what I have seen at other studios - I’d rank the amenities a 2.5/5
Now - the actual workout. Shoutout to Hailey who taught this class and reached out to me via Tiktok - a workout class is driven pretty heavily by the instructor and thankfully Hailey was competent, knowledgeable on the machine and was able to make some helpful adjustments throughout class - if I am comparing this directly to other megaformer classes I would say it was better/very similar to NY Pilates and definitely less challenging than Solidcore. I liked that the studio broke down the exercises we would be doing on the wall as well. I did sweat a bit which was nice, but I would not classify the workout as killer - I’d rank it at the same level as Pure Barre/Corepower/NY Pilates, 3.5.
So that is my Bodyrok review as always if there is a studio you want me to try just leave a comment. Thanks for reading bye!
